The Loreto College Lumination Learning Lab harnesses virtual and augmented reality to immerse students in real-world scenarios, promoting the practical and engaging application of the curriculum to enhance student knowledge and skills. For Loreto College teachers, the advanced technology of the Lab has unlocked exciting new applications to refine and enhance their pedagogical approaches.

Speaking to the opening of the Loreto College Lumination Learning Lab and the exciting new opportunities for both staff and students, Loreto College Principal, Dr Nicole Archard said:

“We are thrilled to officially welcome our students and staff to our new Lumination Learning Lab. We are excited to offer our students the opportunity to learn in a state-of-the-art facility that reflects contemporary pedagogical approaches and prepares them to become the innovators of the future.”

With an emphasis on STEM-based applications, the Lumination Lab will transform the way teachers deliver and students consume the curriculum material at the College and support improved learning outcomes.

Holding true to its title as one of Australia’s Most Innovative School’s and in line with the schools award-winning strategic plan, Loreto College is proud to continue to pave the way for girls to propel themselves into careers in STEM. The College is confident the Lab will serve as an important catalyst needed to bridge the gender gap and continue breaking barriers for young girls.

Dr Archard continues, “as a future looking school, Loreto College strives to cultivate a learning environment that empowers our girls explore traditionally male-dominated STEM subjects. The Lumination Learning Lab will assist us in achieving our mission to set our students up for real-word success through robust critical thinking skills, curiosity, creativity, and confidence.”

Educational research has consistently highlighted girls in single-sex schools perform better in STEM subjects and have more confidence to engage at rates far higher than in co-ed schools. The Loreto College Lumination Lab will provide an important learning environment that will ensure students remain curious about STEM-based careers and are encouraged to challenge the gender stereotypes placed upon them.
